Topic: NIN in 2009

Here is a little post.  Little sad but at least we get one more chance (hopefully) to see them.

trent reznor posted:
Towards the beginning of my career in Nine Inch Nails, our biggest break came in the form of an invitation to perform a series of shows with Jane's Addiction. These performances essentially created and defined the term "alternative" rock in the US, created an ongoing festival franchise that is still thriving (Lollapalooza), set the stage for Nirvana to shift popular taste a few months later, and were really fucking FUN to play and attend - truly the best times I've had. The shows were epic. So epic, they propelled NIN to the "next level" (whatever that means), but caused Jane's to implode. The band broke up at the end of that tour.Fast forward to the present. Corporate rock STILL sucks. A friend tells me they saw the original Jane's lineup play a tiny show in LA that was unbelievable. I break out my Jane's records and am amazed by how vital they sound. These guys were the real deal and in this current climate mostly dominated by poseurs and pussies it was refreshing to hear something that sounded dangerous, volatile, beautiful and SINCERE.Emails were sent, phone calls were made, dinner was arranged, ideas were discussed and the next thing I know we're in the studio experimenting. We laugh, we get to know each other, we cry, we yell, we almost quit, we record LOTS of guitar solos, we discuss, we actually begin to all communicate, we yell some more, we become FRIENDS, we laugh again and we do some great things. I get to see first hand why they broke up all those years ago but I also get the chance to see four distinct personalities that become an INCREDIBLE band when they're in the same room.In NIN world, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of our first releases. I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while. Last year's "Lights in the Sky" tour was something I'm quite proud of and seems like the culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production. It was also quite difficult to pull off technically and physically night after night and left us all a bit dazed. After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year. The approach to these shows is quite different from last year - much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted. Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye. I reached out to Jane's to see if they'd want to join us across the US and we all felt it could be a great thing. Will it work? Will it resonate in the marketplace? Who knows. Is there big record label marketing dollars to convince you to attend? Nope.Does it feel right to us and does it seem like it will be fun for us and you? Yes it does.Look for tour dates soon and I hope to see you out there.Trent

That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that, and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.

Re: NIN in 2009

Ok i posted a question about why the first post makes no sense when you look at who is playing at our show, then I did a little research.  I guess JA isn't playing a few of the shows on the tour, namely Chicago.  That sucks.  I saw them once at Lollapalooza and they were electric.  They put on a fucking awesome show and Dave Navarro is an awesome guitarist.  Oh well.

Do we get SSSS as our opener?  is it these guys?

Touring together but a couple of shows is just NIN with Streetsweeper opening.  Jane's I believe is performing solo somewhere else that night.

Re: NIN in 2009

Well, the original post was up and it said you were offline so I answered the question.

As for opening the group is Street Sweeper Social Club.  Don't know why he went with SSSS when he twittered but there ya go.

Re: NIN in 2009

As always you should be wary of wikipedia's facts but looking at the Nine Inch Nails page,

Currently, the tour page on the official Nine Inch Nails website lists the tour as "Nine Inch Nails: Wave Goodbye." In addition, there is an emblem at the bottom of the page with the dates "1989-2009". Reznor has said outright in an interview on the official website that he is not done making music as Nine Inch Nails, but that he is done touring.

Re: NIN in 2009

In general i hate general admission shows......BUT THIS TIME I DON'T GIVE A RAT's ASS, I'M GOING!

Getting right to the point, we're going to play a handful of shows in NYC, Chicago and LA starting August 22nd. They will be informal affairs in medium to small venues with longer set-lists, possible special guests, cool openers and other surprises. Upon reflection, the NIN/JA tour felt like we had to rush through sets due to a limited allotted set length and many shows were in daylight - it just didn't feel right to end NIN that way. An offer to headline V-Fest in Toronto (being announced soon) set the idea in motion to play some FUN shows to end this up with. If we can get it together we'll film these shows, too.

In NYC we'll be playing Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall and Terminal 5. In Chicago, the Aragon Ballroom. In LA we'll be at The Wiltern, The Henry Fonda, The Palladium and The Echoplex. These should be cool, unusual and unique shows and I hope you come out - this is it.

So far, The Horrors will be joining us for some shows in NYC, Mew will be with us at other shows in NYC, Chicago and LA, and perhaps more.
Details and ticket info will be announced shortly, so check back.

Thanks,
Trent
